HoT week #76
THIS week’s theme/prompt is:
EDGE - “Any Past Theme”
One of the theme that I had regret missing is the Hot Week #49 the theme is HEADS – Doctor. . A subject that is very close to my heart.
If you are like me who have been diagnosed with a disease that is not so popular you will depend on your doctor for guidance. Fortunately for me, my rheumatologist now is an answered prayer. But believe me finding him was not an easy task. The road was full of frustrating curves that along the line I had somehow wanted to give up. I end up begging GOD to send me a good doctor who can help me out of the dark.
Before him I went to see a lot of doctor and there are three that I would never forget :
- 1st doctor – a nephrologist. I met her because she was the physician assigned by my medical insurance. Would you believe she was clueless with my disease but never had the guts to admit it ? I was able to detect of the limited explanation she gave me about the disease. Everytime I asked her a question she would answer me with something that won’t put my mind at ease. I had enough when she told me I need kidney biopsy. I decided to look for another doctor.
- 2nd doctor – was referred to me by a co worker. According to my co worker this doctor is good. He is a general practitioner so I think he might not be familiar with LUPUS. But when I told him I had LUPUS he just told me I am INCURABLE and nothing can change that. I paid him his consultation fee and left his clinic.
- 3rd doctor – actually she is still not a doctor when I met her. She is just a fellow who visited me on my hospital bed as a part of her duty. Again, without compassion she told me my case is hopeless.
With all my experiences with this kind of doctors I thought I am on the loosing end. With my condition worsening, I was hopeless until I met my rheumatologist. That was in 2002. Six years ago, I was doubting his capabilities. But if you see me before and you will see me know you know how good he is. We have journeyed together — from the struggling lupus patient who have been operated in the lungs, diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, got pregnant, delivered her baby without complication until now that I am in remission. No doubt about it he is one of God’s gift to me. Except for my husband, he is one of the reason why despite of my lupus I am still here…living a normal life.

I am SO glad to hear you found a great doctor!
Since I have Fibromyalgia, I know all too well how horrible and frustrating it is to deal with doctors who aren’t knowledgeable or simply act like they don’t care.
