When I was still young I never cared much about my eyesight. I remember being scolded by my mom when I read a book or study my lessons in a dimly lighted place. She would tell me to go in a section of our house where there is better lightning. She tells me that if I always read with the wrong lightning I would have a headache or worst would have damage eyesight in the future. The same goes to my husband. He loves to read until late night even if his mother forbids him too. According to him, in order to read a book without getting caught he would used a flashlight and hide under the covers. And with that practice he is now using contact lens.
Because of this experiences, I made sure that there is enough lightning now in the house. Whenever the little girl is watching the tv, I would turn on the lights or if she likes to read she would automatically asked me to have the lights on. And well, as a child, she is afraid of the dark and dimly lighted places so I make sure we have enough lightning in the house. Right now, the husband and I are discussing on changing the lights in the room. I know good choice of lightning improves the ambience of a house. Hopefully ours will be a lot brighter that it is right now.
